The Van Buren Hospital elevator was inaugurated in 1929, with the objective of transferring patients and officials within the hospital. This funicular replaced the San Juan de Dios elevator, which was destroyed in the Valparaiso earthquake of 1906. The novelty of this elevator is that its lower station is located in the central patio of the Van Buren Hospital and its upper station leads to the upper part of the building.
