Lord Cochrane Museum

Merlet 195, Valparaíso, Región de Valparaíso

Description

The oldest house in Valparaíso, built in 1842, was turned into the Lord Cochrane Museum by the local municipality and is located on the Cordillera Hill. It is said that this house belonged to Thomas Alexander Cochrane, the first Vice-Admiral of Chile and one of the founders of the National Navy, who had several milestones such as the capture of the Esmeralda frigate from the Spanish and the victory in the forts of Valdivia and Corral in the South of the country. In this museum, pieces of Naval Modelism assembled by the Valparaiso Naval Modelism Club are exhibited, and rotating exhibitions are held during the year. In addition, Juan Mouat established the first astronomical observatory that Chile had in 1843.
